Back at the IRE - Investigative Reporters & Editors Conference, I made a valuable contact with an investigative reporter for a major newspaper. The reporter later introduced me to the executive producer of an investigative television show that to this day, I assist in investigations usually in foreign jurisdictions. Membership in the CII -Council of International Investigators recently aided me greatly while working for this program. We set up a surveillance after learning a potential residential address of a very newsworthy individual who no one had seen in over ten years. A newly released “tell all” book by a crime victim had documented his crimes and law enforcement was likely interested in his location as well.
Our investigation enabled the investigative news team to travel to this foreign location and approach the subject on the street while cameras rolled. It was a major scoop & news story. After an assistant producer sent me the DVD of the program, I had to cackle when they stated that their intrepid correspondent had tracked the fugitive down! Behind the scenes is where we private investigators can usually be found, one traced a leaked telephone number, one did the physical surveillance and one put everything in motion.
